Rebranding Safety
A Health and Safety Podcast, boring and complicated right? Nah. It’s the only source of H&S guidance that isn’t boring, or over the top, it’s my personal battle against Health and Safety gone mad. I have been described as a hip young gunslinger of a host and a guy that knows his onions . The podcast has been described as motivating, entertaining, hip and cool, rough and ready, refreshing, funny, interesting, opinionated. It’s not your normal podcast it’s not just full of interviews, yes we have interviews in the expert explains series, but we aim to provide actual content here!

Safety professionals - are you ok? The Rebranding Safety Show
January 30, 2024 • 86 MIN
Disclaimer - Profanity used throughout this video The survey results are in...... Thanks to everyone that completed our "Safety Professional - are you ok?" survey. The results were thought provoking, and in light of Blue Monday just passed (15th Jan) we share some of our thoughts here. We discuss the state of mental health surrounding the safety profession, how our sleep is affected, the challenges that exist relative to workload, loneliness and isolation, uncertainty, and prioritising our own ambitions. We give our thought on the notion that "good is expected", as well as the importance and power of networks, communities and peer to peer support, along with challenges between individual occupational groups and industry wide sharing. We'd also love you hear your thoughts - do you think it would be valuable to know more about actual issues and events as and when they're happening to trigger discussions on H&S topics, and how the consultant network can come together on this for the greater good of the profession?

We discuss leadership and 'the power of not knowing', implementing a culture and how it changes over time, being open and real about the levels of engagement and participation you're willing or able to take on, and the power of story telling. Enjoy, my fellow risk nerds..... (as coined by Chris!)
Is economic growth written in blood? - The Rebranding Safety Show
January 2, 2024 • 53 MIN
Disclaimer - Profanity used throughout this podcast. As safety professionals, we find it abhorrent that a person can lose their life at work, but as a society, do we accept that it’s OK for a person to die at work in the name of progress - either economically, socially, technologically? We give our thoughts on this harrowing subject, citing figures from the ILO and HSE reports. We discuss modern slavery, forever chemicals, as well as the issues surrounding SSIP schemes. And, as a profession, who is advocating for us when it comes to the larger, societal safety issues and the significant long term chronic health impacts from things that safety teams/consultants aren't able to look at on a daily basis? What do we want to see from our professional bodies to ensure changes are made to ensure that the economic growth of our countries, and the world, isn't written in blood or the cognitive and behavioural impairment of generations yet to come?

Reflecting on my chat with Carsten Busch
January 11, 2021 • 37 MIN
I have a good reflection on my chat with Carsten Busch. Summary of last weeks chat. In today's episode, don your cowboy hat, your revolver and whip because we are Raiders of the lost Safety science. We have the Indiana Jones of safety with us, Carsten Busch! Carsten is a HSEQ professional who runs an all-round knowledge transfer and consultancy service, He is the myth buster of safety, but he is the man that has done the most investigation in Herbert Heinrich, most of us have never read a word of his work but yet we criticize it all the time. Because it's wrong right? It's so wrong! We know that managing slips and trips don’t stop fatalities, that triangle stuff is rubbish! Heinrich obviously didn’t know what he was talking about! Obviously, that is tongue in cheek, but some people really do go into Heinrich work are not nice about it either but there are something’s that Carsten talks about that are lessons for us all. Lessons from the past for the future so to speak. I heard Carsten speak on the amazing PDCS calls hosted by the amazing Ron Gantt and it was amazing all of us were hooked on what Carsten was saying and I thought the Rebranding Safety audience needs to hear this, so to finish off our Safety 1 Safety 2 mini-series in an amazing way, let's jump into my conversation with Carsten Busch!

Working at BA during the concord and 9/11, working with Laing O’rouke as they are the rebels in the construction world and they start their journey into a new view in safety. Today's guest has an extensive background in Health and Safety and is now partway through the journey with Maersk implementing the Safety 2 mindset in their operations. I listened to him speak at the HSE digital congress and it left most of the listeners speechless, his passion, the delivery, content of the presentation, all flawless. But the content and message itself, about their journey, the honesty of the challenges. All of the above made me leave the keynote thinking I need to get this guy on the pod!

Safety 1 and Safety 2 with Kelvin Genn
October 19, 2020 • 85 MIN
Today's guest was one of the groups of people at the birth of Safety differently working with Sydney Dekker but the thing that I like about this is that work he does at the business he is Managing Director at, the Art of Work, they do the do. It's not about talking about it is about doing it. I wanted to get as many examples of how we implement Safety differently Safety 2 etc into our workplaces and to days guest has so much experience in this. So today's guest is Kelvin Gen calling in from Australia to help us understand the practicalities of Safety differently.

Finding Wellbeing-With Paul Clark-Health and Wellbeing miniseries part 4 EP76
July 26, 2020 • 112 MIN
In the penultimate episode of our Health and Wellbeing series, I have a deep, heartfelt, fun and entertaining chat with Paul Clark. The (as I call him) Sales warrior turn spiritual warrior.  The relatable Russel Brand. This guy is just, well awesome he gives so much to others but has struggled with drugs and alcohol, family issues etc all to find this spiritual mindfulness that enables him to be comfortable in himself.  to feel like he has enough and is enough, to feel well happy, and know he is looking to help others find that path, whilst at the same time not being a preacher and being relatable. Such a good conversation.   Check out Paul  and his work; https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulclarkbsw/ https://hseglobalseries.com/ https://thespiritjunkie.co.uk/ Buy Pauls Sales book here;  https://amzn.to/2CGtsZv Check out our Merch store!! https://www.rebrandingsafety.com/ Manage Lone working with Safepoint www.safepointapp.com/rebandingsafety And use the code “Rebranding Safety” Feel Good for good with DRMs online course; Click the link for a special Rebranding Safety discount (Affiliate link) https://feelgood.drmgroup.co.uk/a/24849/FnYeAHfK Top ten Business, and Law books in this link and help Rebranding Safety (affiliate link) https://amzn.to/2WXYF1t All the Health and Safety books in this link and help Rebranding Safety (affiliate link) https://amzn.to/2WXeSns Check out our YouTube content; https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeSzxgNnZ8QE0bdZRIxf8eA?view_as=subscriber Connect with me! Health and Well being Mini Series- Proactive health with Konsta Ep73
July 5, 2020 • 71 MIN
We have been working on this for a while. Building a series of conversations focused on Health and Wellbeing.  This is episode one and Today's guest is the business development manager for SiSU Health Group who are pioneering a new and better way of delivering health and wellbeing engagement, measurement and improvement.  Health is sometimes the poor relative of safety in the business. And when we do think about it, it's normally as part of a reaction of a hazard in the business such as hazard it is rarely proactive. Even in our daily lives how Health care is very much on a reactive basis, which is what attracted me to SiSU. Driver Safety with Adam Hawes-ep69
June 7, 2020 • 76 MIN
In today's podcast, we are talking all about driver safety and how Brightmile can help you with there digital solution!    I had a phone call with today's guest and some of the statistics just blew my mind. 59 Million people injured or disabled by collisions on the road each year. 40 % of collisions are work-related, And After Deep sea fishing and Coal mining driving 25000 miles a year is the third most dangerous business activity. But this is probably one of the biggest challenges for society let alone a business. But I was attracted by what Today's guest Alex and the team at Brightmile are doing using gamification, avoiding the big brother mentality. So let get into the podcast and discuss driver safety. Learning from Rugby and The Saracens way-Will Fraser tells all
May 10, 2020 • 81 MIN
In today's podcast we have someone I thought would never come on a Health and Safety podcast…. Who is that? A rugby player with a long and successful career with Saracen’s  He now runs a business called the Saracens way. This caught my eye on LinkedIn because it something I talk about a lot, there is something about the culture at Sarries that attracts the top players, a culture that creates talent. But every time I have watched a player being interviewed about being at Sarries they always talk about how amazing the culture is. And anyone that is a rugby fan knows about the crazy holidays they go on. But also anyone that follows the game will also probably be muttering under their breath from there sofa, “yeah its because they are paying them all loads” but culture is more than pay, money doesn’t keep anyone.   But anyway, It pains me to introduce to the podcast a Sarries player as a Saints fan but let's talk to Will Fraser about culture and leadership. We have linked the NHS and Government websites in the show notes. Finally, another very helpful and at time an interesting source of information is the BBC sounds Coronavirus podcast. We have covered 1. Introduction and are business being left in the shit? We will be covering 2. Managing COVID and your business? 3. Mental Health and Wellbeing-Man its lonely! 4. What about all the other risk? In Todays episode we are going to discuss managing COVID and your business. Creating positive change positive change part two with David McLean
January 6, 2020 • 70 MIN
David is back with us in this two-part episode where we go in-depth with the systems that David touches on when he was first on the Podcast. That’s right David was actually our second guest ever! Make sure you go back a listen to that for a great intro to this.   Now I truly believe that you can not create a successful business or successfully manage the risks in your business or your role until you know yourself. If we want to change it starts with us, so I think it's important that we focus from time to time on methods of self-improvement such as this. However I think you will see from our discussions in this and the previous episode with David and using this in your business is just as impactful and full of potential Think about what’s Jason Anker said in the podcast if we focus on wellbeing, everything else will follow.    Check out DRM Group for more from David and his team   https://www.drmgroup.co.uk/   Connect with David on LinkedIn  https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidmcleandrmgroup/   Check out David’s first Interview with us  https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/how-to-manage-mental-health-at-work-the-expert-explains/id1445367198?i=1000435037866   Check out our YouTube content; https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeSzxgNnZ8QE0bdZRIxf8eA?view_as=subscriber  Connect with me!   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rebrandingsafety/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/safetyrebranded  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jmacpherson1/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rebrandingsafety/message
