The Seven Foundations of Value are the 7 aspects you need to be thinking of as you grow your business. We've covered timing, stability, documentation, and defensibility, and now it's time to speak about diversification. We touched a bit on diversification in the last episode about defensibility. The two topics are closely related. Diversification reduces the risk for a buyer and makes the business a more attractive proposition. For example, diversification across the number of SKUs you offer, your sales channels, your international markets and your traffic sources. Defensibility means reducing the risk associated with just another e-commerce business. Do you have a brand or are you just selling stuff? Is a buyer going to look at your business and say, "well, we could just copy that". Yes, your business ain't defensible. Or will they say, "the patents around these unique products are very attractive to us? No one can copy this." Now that is defensible. Ask yourself, what can you do to strengthen your business?
