The Weekend Fashionista

Today, we have a special guest with us – Praveeni Perera.

She's an influencer, blogger, and professor of international business at Algonquin College. She has a book titled "Cocktails and Conversations: A Guide to Networking," and she's an expert in networking, communication, and global business.

I’m thrilled to have you here on this podcast journey with me. I’ve taught Pilates for over 22 years, I’m a wife, a mother, best-selling author and I created this podcast to share these Lessons From The Core with you.

As you listen in each week, I invite you to think about which roads do you keep going down?

Where have you been unwilling to change your habits - maybe now is the time to learn to self-reflect on the lessons and see those red flags faster so you can get on the right road and path.

Sometimes we can spend years on one road or pattern and it’s all that we know until we learn the right lesson from the core.

Praveeni Perera is an influencer and a blogger who discovered her passion for blogging and content creation in 2017 after stumbling upon the world of influencers and bloggers.

Praveeni, based in Ottawa, Canada, founded "The Weekend Fashionista" as a hobby, which later incorporated into her teachings as a professor of international business at Algonquin College.

With time and dedication, she learned more about the world of monetization and sponsored posts and embraced the opportunities offered by the blogging industry.

In this episode, we get to hear about Praveeni's journey and how she found her path in the influencer community.

We also touch on interesting topics such as the different meanings of color in various cultures and the positive impact of engaging with your followers.

Praveeni also shared how she started with no knowledge of blogging, posting on Instagram, and ended up finding out about monetization and sponsored posts.

It's a story that will inspire those who are just starting in this industry.

Praveeni has collaborated with Canadian and international brands such as Fairmont Hotels, Ritz-Carlton, Suzy Shier, Sophie Grace, and Woodbine Entertainment.

We also get spoiled with a special promo code and get to hear about Sophie Grace, a Canadian women's workwear brand, owned by Emma May, with two showrooms in Calgary and Vancouver and sold online in Canada and the US.

Praveeni shared her experience with the brand and highlighted comfortable, true-to-size clothing in various colors.

The episode discusses Praveeni’s book "Cocktails and Conversations: A Guide to Networking," networking strategies and how to maintain connections, as well as her experiences on luxury trips to Los Cabos and Toronto.

Praveeni & Lisa discuss how they met at a networking event in Ottawa, hosted by Ericka Ushliyanage, listen to the interview from episode #9.

Networking events play a crucial role in building collaborations and connections. It helps individuals to push outside their comfort zone to learn new things, meet new people, and grow in their careers.

With the rise of social media, LinkedIn and Instagram have become two significant platforms where people connect and network.

They both emphasize the importance of trying different foods and exploring different areas of the city while attending a networking event.

Did you know that different countries have different meanings attached to colours?

Canada favours professional colours while other countries love bright colours. We learned this and had so much fun discussing it!

Tune in to hear more about reflecting on career goals, building connections, and shopping for workwear.
