This is Vamsi Pannala. And today, I have Josh brown. So just a quick intro of who Josh Brown is, Josh is also known as the rogue teacher, and he's a coach and consultant, who's not new to the course creation space. For over a decade, he was a teacher and a curriculum consultant instructing 1000s of students. Since coming into the online space and founding JB brown official, he has worked with seven-figure entrepreneurs and new business owners alike to build high-profit courses that are epic. With the highest success and completion rates in the industry. Josh is probably known as one of those really best course creators out there a lot of entrepreneurs actually, you know, hire and you know, work with him. So Josh, thank you so much for taking our time to be on the authority entrepreneurs podcast, really appreciate that. Josh Brown 1:36 I really appreciate you inviting me on and spreading the message about epic courses. I'm pleased to be here and can't wait to dive in. Vamsi Pannala 1:47 Great. So just before we get into the whole theme of what my podcast is all about, which is helping budding entrepreneurs or even the established entrepreneurs become an authority in their niche. Could you kind of just give me a very brief backstory of where you started? And you know how this whole journey has been for us in the last few years that you have been here? Josh Brown 2:13 Well, I actually got into my past career, which was actually teaching I'm it's funny, I'm literally, I think probably one of the only people in this entire industry that was actually a teacher, I have a master's degree in education. But I was in business before I was a teacher and I owned another business while I was teaching because well, at least here in the States, every teacher was a side hustle, and I loved owning my own business. And I honestly got burned out in the teaching field. Here in the US, it's kind of a meat grinder. And I still loved instructing people, I love building courses and things like that. And when I started wanting to leave the teaching space, I knew I wanted to do something online, because well, we all know there literally, there is no cap in the online space for earnings. But I still wanted that great feeling I got from teaching. And I was going to do something completely different. But I did what everybody else does when they are in space. You look at courses and coaching and masterminds and I took a whole bunch of them, I spent a small fortune on them. And I started noticing the same thing, a lot of great intention to people, but horrible classes that I as an educator knew how to fix. So I found my business. And it was secondarily actually like oh man like people are like, really love doing this. And they're niche experts. But they're not getting the information across. And then I realized online courses of single-digit completion rates, are something I can fix, because ultimately for a business, for completion rates, or poor continuity, if your students can finish and love their course, it's easier for them to go into a mastermind or a second-level program. Plus, more importantly, you're fulfilling the promise that the purchase was to give them the best opportunity for success. Okay, so Vamsi Pannala 4:06 what actually, you know, made you a teacher. So, you know, is it something that you found that you, you basically have this in a zeal to kind of become a teacher or you had inspirations within your family within your network, or you know, what really got you into this whole thing? Josh Brown 4:23 Well, my dad was 30 years in the Navy here, he retired actually, as a Master Chief, and particularly the enlisted rates do a lot of teaching as part of what they do particularly senior enlisted. And after he was in the military, he was a corporate trainer and facilitator so I was constantly surrounded by it, but I kept pushing it back because like most young people do. I don't want to do that. And even in college while I was studying something else, one of my mentors says, you should totally teach this. I'm like, No, I can't do that. And I did a few other jobs. I was in sales and then ultimately As was the case they were all right. And the reason why I was resistant to it is I hated school. I did not like I loved college, but I hated school. And I started realizing the reason why. And it was because there were so many teachers that didn't do it, right. And it pushed away from students like me, and I had a few great teachers, I still, loved them. But there were so many bad ones, I wanted to at least make my impact on the next generation with a positive experience. And also teach something that was useful to them, because I actually taught was called technology education. I taught video production, graphics photography, I even taught woodshop that's why I like your background a lot. Um, and I taught all these very applicable things for people. And I wanted to make sure that students were didn't receive the sort of negativity I did towards school, and it worked. I, you know, I still have front teach students who come up to me to this day and talk to me about their experience in the class. Vamsi Pannala 6:03 So when you started off as an educator, I'm sure, you know, you didn't have this overnight success, right? It must be a journey that, you know, really kind of got you through those valleys. You know, few days, you might have a few successes, then there was a rally, and then you know, there's a day. So when was that time that you realize that? Okay, I think this is the time for me to step up the gas and look to do something that actually makes me an authority in my niche. So what was that like? And what did you do to become an authority in your niche? Josh Brown 6:44 Well, when, when I decided to, well, in teaching, the simple way to do it was I had stellar test scores across the board, brag moment, but I did, I had some of the best ones in my district. And I had my state hire me to help build the curriculum for what I taught. Because I was an authority in it. And I already was an expert in those areas before I started teaching, so I was already positioned as an authority there. And when I left the teaching space to come online, um, I was initially told nobody cares about, you know, school and all that the online space, but then I started realizing the real power players and it looks for both experience and credibility for what you're doing. And as a teacher, I can come in and say, Hey, I've instructed more people than almost anybody in the online space. Because I literally had at any given time, I was instructing you know, dozens and dozens of people, I did it for a decade. And on top of it, it is just like with anything, the more times you do it, the better you get at it. Yeah, you know, you don't throw a touchdown pass the first time out, you know, the same thing for this, like, the more times you do it, the better and better you get at it. So I almost discounted my abilities. When I came in there until I started working with literally people I was taking a course with online, some of them are making seven and eight figures. And I and they asked me about something I answered, and they're like, holy cow, that's completely revolutionary. I'm like, that was 100 level college class stuff like it's not, but it's a different skill set. So immediately, when I started being able to do that, and show my niche expertise, that's when I started to get recognized. Vamsi Pannala 8:35 Awesome. So yeah, so the whole theme of my podcast is to help those entrepreneurs who are struggling, you know, they are experts in their space, you know, they know what they're doing, they have the fire and the zeal to do something, you know, send out a message, create a movement and do something that they are an expert of. But unfortunately, because today, very few people have the time and you know, the interest to spend time on other entrepreneurs who are still not an authority in their niche. So one of the things that I'm really trying to get on this podcast is successful entrepreneurs like you, who have spent enough time in what they are doing. And I know, you have seen those success, failures, you know, those roadblocks, all those struggles that you have gone through in this journey, and what people can learn from the experience that you already have, you know, you have already walked the path. So it's easy for you to tell people what to do and what not to know so that it's easy for them to replicate the kind of results that you already had. So just to dive in a little deeper. Would you be happy to come back on another episode where I kind of want to delve deep into understanding more about you know, what the kind of things that you have done to become what the teacher you are today? You know, and you know, all the other things that you probably can share with respect Your journey, the kinds of interactions that you have with these entrepreneurs on a daily basis who wants to create courses, which really leave the kind of impact that they want to enter as a part of what they are doing. So would you be interested in coming back in another episode and sharing all those things with me? Josh brown 10:19 Most definitely, because of course, the building is one, of course, the building is one of the best things for an entrepreneur to add to their arsenal in their business. It's a three, at least here in the US. And this is going to be by 2025 to $325 billion industry. And it's based on your knowledge and passion and experience. And it's a tool to also coach or consult, it's an actual applicable thing. You can give people not just, you know, one on one calls, things like that. It's actually something tangible for them, and it works in your ecosystem. So most definitely, it's one of the best things in the world for people, both experienced or new entrepreneurs are trying to enter the space to get into so most definitely. Vamsi Pannala 11:05 All right, Josh, then thank you so much. I will No, come back and speak to you on another episode of the authority entrepreneurs podcast. Thank you so much for joining us today.
