Healing Her - Unpacking Trauma-Informed Care
July 16, 2023
We dive into the world of trauma-informed care in women's health. We explore the impact of trauma on physical and mental wellbeing and shed light on the need for healthcare providers to create safe and supportive environments for patients who have experienced trauma. Trauma screenings are an essential part of medical appointments, not only for women but also for veterans. These screenings involve asking specific questions about a patient's history, which may make physical exams challenging. It's important to acknowledge that trauma can manifest in various forms, such as school shootings, workplace violence, and racial trauma.
On this episode of eHackHerHealth, we delve into the topic of trauma-informed care. Our discussion centers around the importance of recognizing and addressing trauma in healthcare settings, particularly in women's health. We explore the impact of trauma on both physical and mental wellbeing, and the need for specialized care that meets the unique needs of survivors. Throughout the episode, we shed light on the principles of trauma-informed care, which include creating a safe and supportive environment, screening patients for trauma history, and providing coping skills education. We highlight the role of healthcare providers in understanding the effects of trauma and responding appropriately. Additionally, we discuss the challenges of implementing trauma-informed care in the healthcare system, drawing attention to the need for collective action and discussion.
