Your Knee Jerk Response
August 21, 2020
We have this belief that all our thinking came from our intellectual perspective. The reality is that much of our thinking is on a knee jerk reactive basis. Many of these reactions are actually emotional reactions. The first reaction or impulse is often a gut reaction mediated through the Enteric nervous system or your Gut Brain. So you are feeling it through your gut.
So we feel it through the gut response. Woman tend to be more realistic and acknowledge they are actually feeling something. The men by contrast have this feeling and then will claim that they are thinking about it. Society has demonized the idea that men have feelings or that its not okay for them to express feelings.

Your enteric nervous system (gut brain) runs your digestive system and is hooked to your brain. There many complex chemicals like neurotransmitters and other signaling substances that keep this communication going between your gut brain and your brain.

So over the the last thirty years I trained in multiple areas that revolved around the gut brain and the brain. Hypnosis, types of psychological intervention and trauma therapy, abdominal acupuncture, somatic type therapy and body work not to mention functional medical approaches to modulate the gut brain and the brain.

So when I first trained as a naturopath more than thirty years it was the framework that the process of dying began in the gut digestive system. The microbiome is seen as the new emerging medical field. Your gut has many micro-organisms as the total number of cells in your body. So it plays a really important part.

How you feel, think and the total health of your body is tied up more to your microbiome then to anything else. So we go around thinking that we are going to make good choices. However if your gut and your microbiome are not healthy all your choices and decisions are second best or fatally flawed.

Many people who have challenging or difficult relationships will have a challenged microbiome. As a result the signaling goes off and they make poor decisions. They will have challenges managing their emotional states and making good decisions. The more they try the worse it gets.

The genetics of the bacteria in your microbiome can impact you even more than your own genetics. I currently do genetic assessments with clients right now. I also look at the genetics of the inhabitants of the microbiome. So if they are dysfunctional its very hard to get a handle on your life.

So this is an exciting area and I plan to release books about the nutrition, lifestyle and other approaches to modulate the gut brain and the brain. So you can meditate all you like. You can visualize all you like. However, if you have a significant dysfunctional microbiome, your gut brain and brain signaling would be flawed.

The fundamental signaling processes that tells you what works or does not work for you would be consistently sending you flawed signals. So your life decisions would also not be appropriate for who you really are. Your feedback mechanisms would be flawed.

Now before I do emotional work with people I make sure I start off with getting their gut biochemistry is functioning reasonably well.

The choices that your parents made about their food and eating choices as well as their emotional –programming would have a significant effect on you. The latest discoveries suggest baed epigenetic signaling that the nutritional and emotional choices made by grandmother can have a profound change on your life, lifestyle, health and longevity not to mention your emotional choice making.

Epigenetics literally means "above" or "on top of" genetics. It refers to external modifications to DNA that turn genes "on" or "off." These modifications do not change the DNA sequence, but instead, they affect how cells "read" genes.

Scientists now think epigenetics can play a role in the development of some cancers. For instance, an epigenetic change that silences a tumor suppressor gene — such as a gene that keeps the growth of the cell in check — could lead to uncontrolled cellular growth. Another example might be an epigenetic change that "turns off" genes that help repair damaged DNA, leading to an increase in DNA damage, which in turn, increases cancer risk.

If your parents and grandparents had good habits, you started off from a good place and you simply had to maintain it. If they had poor emotional and nutritional habits then you had a lot of work to do. Its not impossible. But it's a lot of hard work.

Many of the graduates of my Mind Mastery retreats who worked with me began to realize that they had very little free choice. Many of their choices were due to the impact of their early childhood programming and the trauma in the early years of on their lives. Some of these graduates who were counsellors and coaches started recognizing it in their clients as well.

So many of us are re-enacting these childhood patterns and scripts about life and relationship choices. We believe that we have choice. Often that belief of having free choice is an illusion.

So the choices that your parents made about their food and eating choices as well as their emotional – programming would have a significant effect on you. In fact we now know based on epigenetic signaling that the nutritional and emotional choices made by grandmother can have a profound change on your life, lifestyle, health and longevity not to mention your emotional choice making.

So you can also have an issue of emotional epigenetics. People who come from an environment of poverty and lack have a greater likelihood of repeating this in their lives if they do not do something to change their emotional programming. So the traumatic emotional epigenetic patterns can impact biochemistry and physiology.

If your parents and grandparents had good habits, you started off from a good place and you simply had to maintain it. If they had poor emotional and nutritional habits then you had a lot of work to do. It’s not impossible. But it’s a lot of hard work.

When you run into difficult life situations in your thirties and forties, recognize that these are often based on choices you made far earlier in your life. These choices were in turn based on  the impact of  your early childhood programming and the trauma in the early years of your life. Often the only way to resolve them is to deal with unfinished business.

On this podcast I’m going to help you design a life that works. So you are able to say yes to the things that matter and eliminate everything else that slows you down.

The more clear you can be about how to organize your daily life to support your bigger vision, the more you’ll step into your true potential, stay on track and accomplish all that you want and deserve. Are you ready to make that happen?
