In this episode, we give suggestions on how your family can be a catalyst for community building in your neighborhood and spheres of influence. Christmas is an awesome time of year to "break the ice" by bringing something to your neighbors and being an instrument of God's love! Take a risk and watch the LORD work through your family! When we bring our meager "loaves and fishes" to Him, He multiplies them and uses them for His glory.
Remember: don't overload yourself! It's so easy to do this time of year. Rather, do what's life-giving for your family and would be a blessing to others. Consider these ideas and ask the LORD whether He's calling your family to 1 or 2 of them.
- Bring a plate of cookies (whether you make them or get a group together to make a bunch)
- Bake a small loaf of pumpkin bread or zucchini bread, etc.
- Bring a non-baked item, like a candle or poinsettia
- Host a Christmas Eve morning brunch & sing Christmas carols together
- Do a prayer walk as a family through your neighborhood and pray for each house as you go by
- Host a Christmas party
- Host a "Birthday Party for Jesus" -- here, you can have simple crafts, games, cookies they can decorate, etc. -- and make sure to tell the story and significance of Jesus' birth!
- Help another family celebrate Advent -- e.g., how to build an Advent wreath
- Invite your neighbors to join you in one of your favorite Christmas traditions, such as seeing a lights display or ice staking. If you live near the Charlotte area, check out the Billy Graham Library, which has a live Nativity, carriage rides and story time for kids
Scriptures referenced:
- Psalm 23:5
- Matthew 25:31-46
