Shihad is a New Zealand rock band that was formed in Wellington in 1988. The band consists of Jon Toogood (vocals, guitar), Tom Larkin (drums), Phil Knight (guitar), and Karl Kippenberger (bass). Shihad's music is characterized by its heavy, guitar-driven sound, which draws on a range of influences, including hard rock, punk, and metal. The band's lyrics often explore themes of social and political issues, as well as personal struggles and relationships, and are delivered with Toogood's powerful and emotive vocals. Shihad has released 10 studio albums, several of which have reached #1 on the New Zealand album charts. The band has also won numerous awards, including Best Group and Best Rock Album at the New Zealand Music Awards, and has been inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.
