Welcome to the That's Life podcast. You're listening to Richard Butler where I show you how you can make your life better. Let's do this. Hey guys, how's going, Richard Butler here with another podcast. Today is monday the 26 yes, I finally released this on a monday like I should.

But today, what I wanted to talk to you about was knowing that things do happen for a reason. And sometimes it is very, very difficult when you're in the moment to realize that because this idea came to me this morning when I was writing in my journal and asked, what mistakes have you made in the past and how has this affected you?

And sometimes we make mistakes and we make mistakes in the past and we don't realize how they affect us in the future. And sometimes we don't realize what a positive effect that they've had. I've had a couple of things happened to me in life and they devastated me. And then looking back, I think, wow, that is the moment my life changed and it's the change that I needed. It was like a correction in my life that was needed as like the universe saying, okay, it's time to give you a wake up call, not to take things for granted and to go and actually make a change in your life. And I know steve jobs actually, he gave a graduation speech where he said that we don't know why things happen until we look backwards and join the dots. So no matter what you're going through at the moment, there is a reason for it and things are going to get better and you might not ever know the reason for what has happened, but understand that there is a universal divine power, God buddha, whoever you want to call it, there is a reason why things are happening to you when they happen.

Maybe it's to tell you, hey, look, wake up to the fact that you're complaining so much, but your life isn't that bad or maybe it's like, hey, you're going down the wrong path, you need to realign yourself and move forward in a different direction and I do believe that that's what happened to me on a number of occasions that I was out of alignment with myself with my values. I didn't even know my values at that time, but I was out of alignment and the wake up calls that I got, I could do two things, I could continue doing what I was doing or you can make a change and no matter what you do, change is always going to happen. So if you decide not to change, well, you know what's going to happen, change is going to happen anyway, something's going to happen in your life, the world around you is going to change and we have to be able to adapt. I think the key message today is to understand flexibility is to understand how we can actually learn from what has happened and then adjust our sails so that we sail in a slightly different direction up when it comes to goal setting. A lot of the times they say it's not the end result, that's important. It's the journey along the way. And I think again, we have to have flexibility like that, because if we just say this is what I want and this is what I have to achieve.

Maybe that's not what the learning process about. Maybe the learning process is about who you become along the way. You think about it. This goes back to a concept called the hero's journey, where a hero um is plucked out of his ordinary life or her ordinary life to do something extraordinary, which they don't think they'll be able to do or complete the task. And they may never go back to their ordinary life, or they may never go back to what they were meant to achieve. But the idea is it's what they learn along the way. So you're on a hero's journey as well. You know, something has happened that is telling you, well, maybe your life that you're living needs a little bit of a change. And how can you learn from it? And when you think about people who have had, you know, devastating illnesses or diseases are born with deformities and they go on to be like Stephen Hawkins, an amazing uh physicist, or they write books or they composed music, whatever it may be, They used these difficulties to propel them forward. Again, they had two choices to accept their fate, so to speak and say, well there's nothing I can do and my life is awful or they could actually take it and say what can I do with these? I want to say disabilities, but these roadblocks that I'm facing, how can I overcome them?

So think about your life today, It's not that bad, is it? I mean hopefully you're working or hopefully have money. Maybe you have to revise down your expectations of how much you're spending. Maybe you have to revise any expectations of what you're actually um doing. Maybe you're you know, focusing too much on your career are too much on social life and enjoying yourself. And maybe you have to revise that down and realign because you're not getting to where you want in life. But I think the key thing here is that you need to know where you want to go in life and in order to know where you want to go in life, you have to take stock and say, okay today, what I'm going to do is I'm going to make a plan for my life and that's what I've started to do. I have my plans for september, I know where I want to be with my earnings, I know where I want to be in life and if you don't have a plan, you don't know how you're going to get there or when you're going to get there. Now if you want help with planning, I'm going to start putting together a number of webinars and workshops, which will be a low cost, will be €7.7 dollars to join. But I promise you they will be action packed and I will provide amazing content for you. Can you believe how quickly life is going? But that brings me on to my last point that life goes by so quickly. And if you don't take life by the rains, what happens is you just go with the flow and you end up somewhere where you don't want to be. And the last year has gone by so quickly. The last five months I've gone by so quickly. You know, I know in a couple of months I'll be saying my gosh, it's nearly the end of the year and you won't know where the time has gone and time is going to move, whether you want to or not, whether you do something or not, whether you make changes or not, time is going to move on. So what you need to do is you need to start to manage your time, organize your time and become the master of your time.
