Enjoy the slow days
July 20, 2021
Slow days can help, listen in while I explain what a slow day is and what you should do when you encounter one!
You're listening to that, That's Life podcast by Richard Butler. Where I talk about everything to do with life and how to make it better.

Hey guys, how's it going? It's Richard Butler here with another podcast and as always an apology because again, it's been a while since I've actually done a podcast and well, that's the theme about this podcast and it's realizing and understanding that there's going to be slow days now. What do I mean by that? Well, last week we had to go over to my father in law's house because we had some friends staying in our apartment and if you've ever been in Spain, you will know the apartments, the normal people's apartments are tiny. And they said, well, no, no, no, we'll come over and there's like the father and the mother and two kids and then ourselves, we could all stay there. Six people staying in a small apartment at the beginning of july, we said no way.

So we decided we would go over to my father in law. My father in law is um getting older and he needs a lot of help. And it's not the most ideal place, a two record because the acoustics are not that great, be there's lots of noise in the apartment building and see just I wasn't generally inspired, but when I thought about it, I thought, well except these slow days, because last week I wasn't able to record uh too many videos earlier on in the week. I wasn't able to record any audios and I just accepted it. I said okay, this week I can't do it, that's no problems. So rather than getting really stressed and you know, just putting myself into a state of despair, I said, okay, I can't do that. So what I'll do is I will write some scripts so that when I'm back in the office I'll be able to record. And that went pretty well because I could just sit there and I could put on my headphones and I could write and it didn't matter about the noise around me.

So the idea today to take away is if you have slow days, if your sales professional, if you are working in an office, if you're an executive, no matter what you work at, you will always have days where you're not inspired or just the environment is not right, accept it and move on to do something that you can actually do and something that will actually benefit from those slow days. I mean, you know, some days I feel like just getting a laptop and go into a cafe and writing for a little bit and that's fine. So what I've learned is not to put myself under pressure and say I have to record today why? Because if I did do that recording, I would be stressed, I wouldn't be in top form, you would know it, I would know it and I would be happy putting something out like that. Now this week has been more productive so far.

I returned to the office end of last week and I was able to get a lot more done. But I also noticed that on those slow days are the days that I felt were slow days. Do you know what I haven't done? I hadn't planned out my day the night before and I think that was a huge factor as well because I got into work mode and I didn't really know what to do. So I was kind of pushing around virtual papers, you know the way sometimes you're just being busy rather than being productive. So again by then catch myself and saying, okay now I need to plan out. I wrote out a couple of things that I needed to do and I got them done. So always, always, always, always, always do something. Maybe you're not going to be as productive as you normally are, but hey, that's okay, get something done. Because if you just give up and say, okay, well I'm not gonna be able to do anything this week because I'm in my father in law's are because I'm, wherever it may be, what happens is that you break the rhythm, you break your working rhythm. So it's better to say, well I might be as productive, but what I'm going to do is I'm going to do something rather than nothing. So you know, the same happens with this podcast. Sometimes when I don't get it done, I say, damn it, I'll just give up.

But I know you are listening and do let me know if you're you're listening and reach out to me on my website. Richard Butler dot Coach and sign up for my newsletter as well. It's somebody somewhere telling you something that you need to change what you're doing. And that is my thought for today. I'll talk to you next week.
