23 - Raising Courageous Children (with David Benham)
February 13, 2022
In this episode, Graham interviews author, speaker and business leader David Benham. David is a passionate man of God who is known for unapologetically standing for the truth of Jesus Christ. He and his twin brother Jason are the authors of numerous books, including the bestseller Whatever the Cost. In this episode, David shares a powerful framework from one of their books, Living Among Lions, of how convictions lead to commitments, which lead to courage -- an awesome concept that we as parents can teach to our kids! David has great wisdom on the work/life balance, sharing how he prioritizes his family and incorporates his kids into not only recreational activities, but his work as well. In my favorite quote of the episode, David encourages and challenges men with this: "You can't delegate that seat at the table for dinner." Awesome truth!

Other points David discusses:
- Growing up in Texas with his brother; the influence and example of his dad, who taught his that "your theology needs to be your biography."
- He and his brother Jason making it to Major League Baseball; settling down in the Charlotte area and starting a business.
- Their story with being dropped by HGTV for a TV series that was in the works.
- Create an appetite in those who follow you.
- There is no sacred/secular divide. We must care about what God says about everything.
- It's God's earth. As Christians, everywhere our feet go, we should be excellent. We should not settle for mediocrity.
- We must have CONVICTIONS that transform our hearts. This leads to COMMITMENTS that transform your lifestyle. This leads to COURAGE, which transforms your world.
- Boldness precedes the miraculous.
- Leading well is running at the pace of your people. It's a daily decision.
- Eliminating extra activities that don't involve your kids.
- If it doesn't fit with the pace of your family, you need to consider dropping it. Men, you are the pastor of your home. You can't delegate that seat at the dinner table!
- Covenant community matters.
