Welcome to episode one of my brand new show The Get Real About Business Podcast!

I’m so excited to be bringing you this new podcast as it’s something that’s been bubbling over for a while now. In this first episode you’re going to hear what this podcast is all about, why I’m doing it and what you can expect from the show going forward.

Why This Show…

So, you might know I’m Clive Maloney. I'm the founder and small business coach at Get Real About Business. I live in Essex with my amazing wife Julie who’s also a coach, and my two sons, Peter and Craig.

I’ve been coaching and teaching people in business for over twenty years and for the past few years, I've been teaching entrepreneurs and small business owners how to start and grow a business fast.

In 2010 I left my corporate life, where I'd been taking a lead role in the learning and development department for the second largest local authority in the country.

I thought it was going to be easy setting up my own business. At that time it was very much focused around coaching and training for leadership and personal development skills in large businesses.

To cut a long story short, I soon found starting and growing your own business can be a massive headache. I really struggled at first. It was only when I'd literally hit rock bottom that I went out and got the help that changed everything for me.

I worked with a top coach in America and within a few short weeks everything had begun to change in my business... and in my life. It was at that time that I made two decisions. One, that I'd never be in that same situation again, where I was struggling for money and always wondering where the next client was going to come from. The other decision was that I would learn everything there was to know about marketing and growing a business and I would teach it to others.

That's when Get Real About Business was born. I took all my teaching, coaching and leadership skills, combined it with constant research and study about what's working in business right now, and I now help all kinds of entrepreneurs to get more clients and make more money.

I’m sharing this background with you because The Get Real About Business Podcast is going to be all about the different ways you can grow your business.

I'm a big fan of automation and online marketing. We'll be covering the use of free traffic from social media as well as paid traffic such as Facebook ads, YouTube ads, Twitter ads and Google Adwords. We'll also be covering things like retargeting, native advertising, blogging, sales funnels, analytics, landing pages, sales pages, how to write good ad copy, banner ads, email marketing, buying email lists. You name it, if it has anything to do with generating sales for your business, you’ll hear tips and strategies for doing it better, right here on the Get Real About Business Podcast.

This is going to be your one-stop shop for learning what’s working right now and what's not working when it comes to generating sales for your business and scaling and growing your business for even greater profits.

You’re gonna hear lessons from experts in these different areas of growing your business, solo episodes from me, case studies from marketers, entrepreneurs and business owners. We’re also going to doing monthly Q&As so you can get involved and shape the contents of this show going forward.

I’m Learning Right Along Side You

I've been studying marketing and business strategies for years now, but I honestly believe you never stop learning. I’m going to share my journey of beginning to learn other marketing strategies I've not used before and how I’m testing them in my own business.

For example, I’ve never used things like LinkedIn ads or telemarketing in my own business. I GET them and I've seen some of my clients use them successfully, but I don’t know the tricks and strategies for really making them work.

So I’m gonna be learning a lot of the topics we discuss here on the show right along with you. As we go along, I’ll share updates with you about what I'm testing and what my clients are testing and what’s working and what’s not working.

In each episode, my goal is for you to walk away with one, maybe two or three proven business building strategies or tips that you can add to your “test pad” of ideas to test for yourself.

It’s About Creating Your Machine

I LOVE talking about this stuff because having the right strategies and the right plan allows you to create freedom in your business, no matter whether you're just starting out, or you've already got a successful business and you're just looking to take it to the next level. It gives you peace of mind of knowing exactly where your next lead and sale is going to come from.

It’s about creating a growth engine where you put £1 in and you're getting £2 or £5 or £10 in return. It means testing things out and finding the exact right requirements for massive business success so ultimately you can create predictable results in your business. It’s what defines and fuels the sales machine in your business. It’s when marketing and sales activities is not an expense, it’s an investment in your business.

My plan is to do one short episode every week (about 30 minutes each) and bring you different mini-series about specific topics. Like, for the next 2-3 episodes you’re going to hear episodes about Facebook ads. Then, for the next 2, 3 or 4 episodes I’ll have guests on talking all about blogging and so on.

I want to give you insight into different business and marketing strategies so that you can choose the ones that align with your business, focus on them and test them. You get to figure out if it’s working and then make a decision about testing another strategy.
