Persevering After Setbacks and How To Tell When You’re Ready For Change With Rachel
February 21, 2022
Rachel had setbacks as she began her process into private practice. Before licensing, she left her state of Pennsylvania to move to California for a fresh start. This became a problem as she was unable to use her hours for licensure, and lost her grad school connections. Starting from scratch, and having a burn for change, Rachel took on various positions all helping her reach her goal. After 8 long years, and a pandemic, she became licensed and felt the constraints she was in helping her catapult her into the future she is progressing to. Rachel and Miranda talk about creating structure within your private practice and how Bootcamp helped Rachel solidify her infrastructure. Rachel also advises how to create a structure with a tool she learned from Bootcamp, and how to tell when to move on from a position to improve your life.
Rachel was on the path to her licensure until she hit a setback. Make that a few setbacks. After moving to California, she found out all of her 750 hours of practice in Pennsylvania would not qualify under state law. Without colleagues or connections, she started from scratch. To her, the burn for change helped her continue her journey to private practice. After internships, multiple jobs, and a pandemic, she became licensed after 8 grueling years.

Rachel, an LMFT in Pasadena, credits the constraints from the pandemic as the push she needed to make the transition into private practice. As she was returning to group practice from maternity leave, she felt she “needed more margin in life”. Rachel gives advice on how to tell when you are ready to move on from group practice and make the change into private practice. She also credits the Business Bootcamp as a helpful tool she began to work on the business side of her practice.
