Femininity Isn't Feminism | Martha Barnard-Rae
October 22, 2020
Martha Barnard-Rae wrote her thesis on high achieving female students and their relationship to femininity from a poststructural perspective. As she says, "the poststructural bit is important because what a poststructuralist does is interrogate: why do I think this? Who benefits from my thinking this? What stories have I been told that make me think this? And whose stories have been left out?" In this episode, Martha talks us through the very top layer of unpacking what we believe about ourselves, our femininity, how that's different from feminism, how to cope with the realisations that come with all of that, and where to start. Dip your toe in some femininity and feminist beliefs from this perspective and apply them to how you view yourself as a businesswoman. I promise, it'll even be fun.
