Modern Education Movement
Re-inventing high school with Indra Sofian of Sora Schools
January 12, 2021
If you have kids in high school, or approaching that age, today’s episode is especially for you. If you want a look at the future of education happening right now, keep listening. My guest Indra Sofian is the co-founder of Sora Schools, a live, virtual project-based high school where students explore their interests and future careers. That’s an understatement, actually. Imagine a school where kids get mentored in projects of their own choosing, like building a rocket, with the support of a SpaceX engineer… And the learning objectives achieved through that rocket project are evaluated and translated into an accepted transcript for university... Where the focus is helping students discover and develop their passions, and turn that into an exciting career choice? Sora Schools is trail-blazing the future of education. Now Indra’s journey to reimagine high school education began while he was in college at Georgia Tech, where he started his first business Elevate Media, producing videos and content for companies like Coca Cola and State Bank & Trust. He also led the student entrepreneurship community at Georgia Tech and became a venture partner at Contrary Capital, a venture capital firm investing in university-founded startups. Eventually, Indra realized that he was learning far more from his business and other involvements than he was sitting in class. He began to research educational models and last year founded Sora Schools with his co-founders, Wesley Samples and Garrett Smiley. Enjoy the show!
