168. Meet JA BIG. A DJ & A Cyclist On a Mission to Ride Around the USA for World Bicycle Relief
In this episode, you will learn about. Meet internationally renowned DJ and cycling enthusiast, JA BIG who was born in Rwanda but moved to Montreal as a child.
For years he's been spinning records at clubs all over the world from San Francisco to London-him bringing his unique style along on every trip! This winter he is planning to embark on a 6mo ride around America for World Bicycle Relief - helping provide girls access motorcycles so they can get themselves educated too!. Learn how you can support the cause.
It has always been a dream of mine to visit all of the continental USA and to do with a purpose makes the challenge more meaningful.
My mission is for children in rural Africa, especially girls, to be able to attend school by actually being able to get there in the first place thanks to provided bicycles because one of the major hurdles is on foot it’s way too far.
I mapped the route according to my own analysis and points of interest but I am counting on locals to advise on better, more scenic, shorter, easier and/or safer stages (rides).
I will start in San Francisco and ride anti-clockwise for the simple reason that I want to avoid Winter (been there, done that) and also avoid the deserts at their hottest.
This is a loop meaning that the departure date change, I will pick my start/finish point accordingly depending on the weather.
Ideally, I would want this to be 100% supported so that I may focus on riding my bicycle and not carrying cargo or taking care of logistics but I will probably have to do what I do usually: add bags on the bike and pedal
I am hoping to meet many cyclists from children to pros who will tag along for a kilometre or a few states (especially in the South if you understand why) and donate to World Bicycle Relief just as people on social will be doing so on the fundraising page. I will also be spinning DJ sets with proceeds going to the charitable organization.
The only reason I would not go ahead with this ride is if the health crisis worsens in the USA and/or if I am unable to figure the finances of such an endeavour.
