Why Weight Elevate
Episode 44: Trips and Tricks to Stay Healthy During the Holidays
November 16, 2021
In this 15 minute podcast we hold a roundtable discussion on ideas that we have found helpful to maintain one's healthy goals during the holidays. Check out the show notes for a more detailed list of the ideas we discussed. The four main items we discuss are: 1. Ask: How do you want to feel DURING the holidays? 2. Ask: How do you want to feel AFTER the holidays? 3. Write down 10 habits or behaviors that help you feel your best. (More than just food related habits, like sleep, exercise, water, etc.) 4. Review your responses to the above steps and write down 5 habits you can commit to this holiday season.
Here are the takeaways we discussed during this episode:

Go through these 4 steps to better navigate the holidays:

  3. Write down 10 habits or behaviors that help you feel your best.  (More than just food related habits, like sleep, exercise, water consumption, etc.)
  4. Review your responses to the above steps and write down 5 habits you can commit to this holiday season.
    1. Put the list of 5 habits somewhere you can see it regularly

Have a plan now for the entire upcoming holidays (including meals, recipes, etc.)

Don’t beat yourself up if you are not 100% good at following those habits.  Keep moving forward.

Ask yourself, are you wanting to be in an aggressive active Weight Loss phase during the season?  Or just maintain?

Remember it’s a Holiday, not Holi-Season.

Master Tip!

Food guilt is real—that you feel bad for not eating Aunt Susan’s famous dessert…honor your body and have confidence to say: “I’m full” or to take leftovers.  Or you can blame your doctor who says you can’t eat it.  (You can always blame Dr. Rigby, we do!)

After the big holiday meal, plan on going on a walk.  (This helps keep you accountable)

Here are some of Kelsey’s favorite holiday recipes:

Be Prepared with what are meals/recipes you like.

If you are trying a new recipe, make it before the big holiday meal.

Be grateful to spend time with family.
