Safety Wars
Civil or Servile
March 11, 2021
There is a difference between being a civil safety professional and a servile one.
This is this show is brought to you by Safety FM. The following program is rated for mature audiences and may contain adult language, adult situations and frank safety discussions. The names in certain details have been changed to protect the safe and unsafe. But believe me, every item in here is true, civil or servile. Do you want to be simple, or do you want to be a servile? Because there is a difference? A lot of times you're out on a job and there is a problem and things might get a little bit heated. You know what I'm saying? For example, someone tells you to go bleep yourself after you ask them to put on a pair of safety glasses or manage some other minor thing. One of my favorite responses is from people who say the safety person on the last job I did didn't make us to whatever. So usually that's a lie. But how do you respond to this now? You must tread lightly and make a decision right then and there. Do you want to be civil, or do you want to be servile because there is a difference? I'm 100% for getting along with everyone and being civil and everything else to make it a nice, safe and helpful and positive workplace. But make sure that you're not being roped into being servile. What's servile name being submissive and slave like one of the ways you could kill a safety program is if you do not find the balance between being firm and assertive and being an antagonist safety dictator. Often negative responses by co workers are ways of getting you to have a heated conversation, losing your cool and trying to provoke you By provoking you, you are automatically losing the argument, at least in their mind. And before you know it, you've become the problem, especially if you don't have management that supports safety. So what do you do? Remain calm and in control? Usually this is a better approach that leads to better outcomes. We'll be discussing leadership on a future broadcast. No matter what you do, remain calm and professional. Don't ever let them see you sweat or being servile. Often this is easier said than done for safety wars. This is Jim proposal.
