Once Upon a Business
A Long, Long Winter
April 21, 2022
Bleak periods in our businesses can feel as though they’ll never end. Today’s touching story was written by a giant himself, Oscar Wilde, who faced his own share of winters. This story reminds us that when we open our hearts and minds, the spring always returns.
Story Coach Lisa Bloom is the go-to expert on business storytelling. For decades she’s helped entrepreneurs master this important but overlooked skill. In Once Upon a Business, she’s turning her attention from the craft of storytelling to the stories themselves — the densely evocative folk and fairy tales that we’re all exposed to.

In this episode of Once Upon a Business, Lisa reads “The Selfish Giant” and extracts rich business and life lessons that are applicable for entrepreneurs of all stripes.

“I think that often for entrepreneurs who are caught in this winter, it becomes self perpetuating. They're only seeing what's in front of them, and their vision has become clouded.”

“I think we must keep pushing the edges so that we can expand to more inclusion, more redemption for the wrongs that have been done in the past, to give people opportunities who are different from us to make representation available to all, to have tolerance be the norm.”

– Lisa Bloom

Following a successful corporate career, Lisa Bloom became an entrepreneur, author, speaker and coach. She built a global business, Story Coach, supporting corporates, entrepreneurs, and coaches with speaking mastery, leadership capability, and marketing impact. Lisa is the author of The Story Advantage and Cinderella and the Coach.

Lisa is also the Director of Mirasee’s ACES Business Acceleration Program, helping entrepreneurs to achieve outstanding results in the growth of their business. There’s nothing Lisa loves more than to spend time with her partner and their four sons, walk her dog, travel, read, and share stories.
