How to save on email marketing costs for your bootstrapped startup
March 13, 2021
In this episode we talk about how to get your emails as cheap as possible when you're doing email marketing.
Here's how to get your emails as cheap as possible when you're doing email marketing. So there's two different types of email marketing models. One will charge you by the amount of emails sent, so you likely can have unlimited contacts. But every time you send an email, there's a cost attest to that, and then the other model is where you get unlimited emails, but you get charged based on the number of contacts you have. So what you can do is create a hybrid model by taking each of these services and attaching it to a certain type of email for each model. And that sounds really confusing. So let me break it down for you guys.
So I've already mentioned that there's two different business models for email marketing. You can get unlimited contacts or unlimited emails sent, so the best way to match up your emails with these business models is to think about the two different types of emails. You have two different types of emails. You have our transactional emails and nurture emails, transactional emails or emails that you send out there like order confirmations. They usually run at the end of some kind of automation that you're doing for e-commerce or an opt-in, etcetera.
So these are your transactional emails. These are emails that you're sending out to in huge list. But you're sending out these emails infrequently to a few people that are coming into your community, your funnel your world. So those are transactional emails and for transactional emails, what you want to do is you want to use an email service that lets you put unlimited contacts and only charges you by email. That way you can start collecting all the contacts you need. And you don't have to worry about those contacts costing you a lot of money because the transactional emails that you're sending out, they're going to be okay, then.
If you have nurture emails, nurture emails, you are likely sending that out to a bigger list. And if you're standing that out to a bigger list and you are getting charged by email, then those costs will start adding up. So for your nurture emails, and I'm sure you've already figured this out by now, but you want to be able to send unlimited emails and you pay by the type of the number of contacts you have. So that's how you save on your email marketing system. Just have a hybrid system and there's a motorcycle sound in the background. So I lost my train of thought, but I'll see you guys in the next episode.
